MTSU Offers Free Application Week for Prospective Students

Free Application Week: Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is offering a Free Application Week for prospective freshmen and transfer students from Monday, Sept. 16, to Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024.
Application Fee Waived: During this time, the regular $25 application fee will be waived for undergraduate first-time freshmen and transfer students. No code is needed; students simply need to apply within the specified dates.
Application Process: Students can apply by visiting www.mtsu.edu/apply.
Goal of Initiative: MTSU is participating in Tennessee Higher Education Commission’s College Exploration Month, with the aim of reducing barriers for students interested in applying.
Eligibility: The free application offer is available only to undergraduate first-time freshmen or transfer students. It does not apply to graduate or dual enrollment applications.
True Blue Preview: Prospective students can also apply for free at upcoming True Blue Preview days on Sept. 28 and Nov. 2, 2024, and Feb. 28 and March 2, 2025.
True Blue Tour: MTSU will host recruiting events across Tennessee and in Huntsville, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia. For more information on these events, students can visit https://mtsu.edu/rsvp.

9 Must-Visit Pumpkin Patches in Middle Tennessee for Fall 2024

Flying Ghost Pumpkin Patch (Davidson County): Located on White Bridge Road in Nashville, this pet-friendly patch offers the largest selection of pumpkins, mums, and hay bales. Visitors can enjoy pumpkin bowling and other photo-friendly opportunities.
Walden Farm (Rutherford County): Open from late September through October 31, Walden Farm offers hayrides, a corn maze, farm animals, a Tennessee Slip n Slide, and a variety of fall treats and decor. Visitors can purchase Walden Bucks punch cards to access activities.
Gentry Farm (Williamson County): A seventh-generation farm in Franklin, Gentry Farm offers hayrides, a corn maze, putt-putt golf, and more. Open from late September to October, tickets are available online or at the gate.
Pumpkin Paradise (Maury County): This Columbia-based farm features a corn box, pedal track, hay maze, and more. Hayrides offer a chance to see farm animals and learn about life on the farm.
Keller’s Corny Country (Dickson County): Offering kid-friendly zip lines, wagon rides, a corn maze, and more, Keller’s Corny Country opens in October with activities for the entire family.
Bottom View Farm (Sumner County): Bottom View Farm’s fall festival includes a pumpkin patch, train rides, a rolled hay maze, pony rides, and an ice cream parlor, making it a family-friendly destination.
Lucky Ladd Farms (Rutherford County): Recognized as one of the top pumpkin farms in the U.S., Lucky Ladd offers a variety of games, rides, a corn maze, and delicious caramel apples.
The Wilson Family Farm (Williamson County): This farm in College Grove offers hayrides, a pumpkin patch, corn maze, and pumpkin cannon, with the goal of providing visitors a peaceful escape from the city.
Cheekwood Estate & Gardens (Davidson County): A Nashville tradition, Cheekwood Harvest features a pumpkin patch, garden strolls, and fall foliage from September to October, appealing to families, couples, and individuals alike.

East Nashville Duo Behind Kisser Restaurant Honored as Best New Chefs in America

Nashville Chefs Recognized Nationally: Leina Horii and Brian Lea, owners of East Nashville’s Japanese restaurant Kisser, have been named two of Food & Wine Magazine's “Best New Chefs” for 2024.
Restaurant Highlight: Kisser is known for its housemade udon noodles, praised as “some of the greatest in the United States,” and offers a menu inspired by traditional Japanese cuisine.
James Beard Nomination: In April 2024, Kisser was also nominated for Most Outstanding Restaurant in the prestigious James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards.
Location and Offerings: Located in East Nashville, Kisser serves breakfast and lunch on select days and is modeled after a Japanese kissaten, offering a café-like space for relaxation and dining.
